The capacity of multi-hop wireless networks with TCP regulated traffic

چکیده
We study the capacity of multi-hop wireless net. works with TCP regulated tramr We study the dependence of the capacity on the transmission range of nodes in the network. Specifically, we examine the sensitivity of the capacity tu the speed of the nodes and the number of TCP connections in an ad hoc net. work. By incorporating the notion of a minimal acceptable Qc3 metric (loss) for au individual session, we argue that the QoSaware capacity is a more accurate model of the TCP-centric capacity of an ad-hoc network. We study the dependence of capacity on the source application (Telnet or FTP) and on the choice of the ad-hoc routing protocol (AODV, DSR or DSDV). We conclude that persistent and non-persistent traIXc behave quite diNerently in an ad-hoc network.

Transport-Layer Performance in Wireless Multi-Hop Networks
Wireless communication has seen a tremendous growth in the last decades. Continuing on this trend, wireless multi-hop networks are nowadays used or planned for use in a multitude of contexts, spanning from Internet access at home to emergency situations. The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) provides reliable and ordered delivery of a data and is used by major Internet applications such as we...
متن کاملEnergy Efficiency and Capacity for TCP Traffic in Multi-Hop Wireless Networks
We study the performance metrics associated with TCP-regulated traffic in multi-hop, wireless networks that use a common physical channel (e.g., IEEE 802.11). In contrast to earlier analyses, we focus simultaneously on two key operating metrics—the energy efficiency and the transport-layer (TCP) throughput. Using analysis and simulations, we show how these metrics are strongly influenced by the...
متن کاملImprovement of the mechanism of congestion avoidance in mobile networks
Mobile ad hoc network congestion control is a significant problem. Standard mechanism for congestion control (TCP), the ability to run certain features of a wireless network, several mutations are not common. In particular, the enormous changes in the network topology and the joint nature of the wireless network. It also creates significant challenges in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), density ...
متن کاملImproving TCP Performance in Wireless Multi-hop Networks Design of Efficient Forwarding and Packet Processing Techniques
Due to the high availability of cheap hardware, wireless multi-hop networks and in particular Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are becoming popular in more and more contexts. For instance, IEEE 802.11 based WMNs have already started to be deployed as means to provide Internet access to rural areas in the developing world. To lower the cost and increase the coverage in such deployments, the wired n...
متن کاملA Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
